UNC Medical Center Surgical Tower Commissioning

The Surgical Tower project is a new 325,000-square-foot medical tower including twenty-four fully licensed operating rooms. The operating rooms will be accompanied by Pre-Op and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) areas, and 52 ICU rooms. The new tower will include a new Central Processing & Distribution (CPD) department for the entire hospital and a new sterile elevator. There will be connections to the existing hospital at multiple levels. The building will be located on the site of the existing hospital loading dock that serves the Anderson Pavilion, Women’s and Children’s Building and part of the Neuro-Sciences Hospital.

RMF is performing the plumbing, mechanical, controls, electrical, lighting, and security system commissioning to validate that the performance of these systems meet the design intent as set forth by UNC Hospitals. Also included is the commissioning of the life safety systems such as lightning protection and refrigerant detection.
