The new medical office building is Mission Health’s first clinic in Rutherford County and expands access to primary care services for residents of western North Carolina.
HCA/Mission Health needed additional outpatient space to serve the rural area of Forest City, between Charlotte and Asheville. RMF’s design team worked with Mission and Cushman Wakefield on the adaptive re-use of an existing bookstore into a state-of-the-art medical office building (MOB). The converted building includes eight exam rooms, a procedure room, imaging space including x-ray, a phlebotomy station, lab, offices, conference room, break room with kitchen and two nurse stations for easy check in/check out of patients.

RMF provided HVAC, plumbing and electrical designs to accommodate the new floor layout and space needs. Phasing challenges included a temporary RTU later replaced with a permanent RTU, as well as separating the two tenant electrical services without causing a shutdown to the occupied space - allowing the building to open within the aggressive schedule.
