RMF Upgrades Critical Systems at SUNY Downstate

Featured in Medical Construction & Design, RMF Engineering’s recent completion of a $10-million air handling system upgrade at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University marks a critical infrastructure milestone, ensuring uninterrupted care in essential units like Labor & Delivery, NICU, and PIRR/MRI.

RMF Engineering recently completed work on a $10 million HVAC system upgrade at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, the only academic medical center in Brooklyn. This milestone, featured in Medical Construction & Design, modernized three rooftop air handling units serving critical care areas including Labor and Delivery, NICU, and PIRR/MRI, all while maintaining uninterrupted facility operations.

In collaboration with the State University Construction Fund and DHSU, RMF led the assessment, design, and phased implementation of new custom VAV AHUs, reheat system components, and upgrades to electrical and automation systems. Designed to exceed code requirements for outside air and filtration, the improvements enhance indoor air quality and system reliability in a highly constrained urban setting, supporting SUNY Downstate’s essential role in training more doctors than any other NYC medical college.
