This project involved the design of a 125,000 SF new office and laboratory facility within an existing building in Morrisville, North Carolina. RMF provided full MEP design services for genetic testing company Invitae. This facility complements the sequencing work occurring at Invitae’s San Francisco facility and expands their operation to support their east coast clientele. One of Invitae’s project goals was sustainability which takes its form in multiple areas within the project.
The building formerly housed a mall with outlet stores which has now been repurposed and converted to serve Invitae’s needs for state-of-the-art genetic testing equipment. This space includes multiple clerestory high spaces that provides daylight to the employees and interior space skylights were added to maintain this theme. The manufacturing spaces are open to allow for the free flow of material and people for a inviting work atmosphere. There is also an open office space concept that is complemented with amenities of a workout facility, coffee bar and plenty of outdoor congregation areas.
