RMF Featured in Electrical Construction & Maintenance “Top 40 Electrical Design Firms” Spotlight

Several of RMF’s most notable and innovative electrical design projects are featured in EC&M’s “Top 40 Electrical Design Firms Project Spotlight for 2021.”

Duke Health – New Generator HUB Building

Durham, NC
RMF provided design services for Duke Health’s new Generator HUB located on their main campus in Durham, N.C. The 7,000-square-foot building sits adjacent to the existing Anlyan Building and provides emergency power to support 950,000 square feet of new and existing patient bed towers on Duke Health’s campus. RMF designed a Level 1 EPSS consisting of three 3MW, 15kV diesel standby generators in an N+1 configuration to support the emergency needs of the new and existing bed towers. Additionally, RMF designed a new fuel oil system to maintain operation of the generators for a minimum of 96 hours.

Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC)

RMF designed a new 15 kV electrical switching station that was successfully energized to replace the obsolete 1960s equipment at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Maryland (BARC). The 50 ft × 25 ft weathertight building was prefabricated offsite, shipped by truck in two pieces, and reassembled to serve the long-term electrical power needs for the research facilities of USDA’s BARC East Campus. The switchgear was replaced with zero unplanned outages to the facility.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare – Emergency Power Project

Charleston, SC
This project consisted of a three-level, 5,200-square-foot addition to the existing physical plant that houses additional emergency power capacity above design flood elevation. Level 3 contains one 2MW generator and switchgear. The generator is tied back to the existing emergency power system in the hospital. The addition also included a connection for a temporary generator and load bank maintenance connection. More emergency power was a crucial part of the hospital’s plan to have the ability to shelter-in-place rather than evacuate. RMF Engineering provided the MEP/FP design and construction administration for this project.
