Decarb Debrief Ep. 2: Master Planning Approaches to Decarb
In Episode 2 of Decarb Debrief, RMF’s Kristin McMurry, PE explores how energy load profiles establish the foundation for effective decarbonization planning. She also introduces key steam-generation technologies and how they’re evaluated for cost, performance, and emissions.
In Part One of “Master Planning Approaches to Decarbonization” Kristin McMurry, PE walks through the process of developing an energy load profile to establish a baseline for current and future campus energy demand. She introduces several decarbonization pathways for existing steam systems, including electric boilers, industrial heat pumps, modular nuclear technologies, biofuels, and green hydrogen. Kristin also explains how engineers evaluate these options using criteria such as first cost, operating cost, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. The session highlights how thoughtful master planning and data-driven analysis help district energy clients identify practical and scalable strategies for reducing energy use and carbon emissions.
